If it doesn’t have a six-speed manual then it can’t possibly be the best minivan.
And like others have said: no sliders = not a minivan.

You could get a ‘ 77 VW Kombi with a manual and a slider and RWD!

I thought this was the Oppo poster child for a minivan.
We had one for a few days when they were still being sold new. My wife loved it, and she never liked anything that felt big. It was easy to drive and was like a TARDIS inside.
The only knock against it, and it was a pretty big knock, was the low rent interior and high NVH. Typical Mazda for the time.

But the D elica could be had in brown with a diesel and manual. It also is pretty good off road and still has sliding doors. Also, hood scoop and off road accessories to confuse people.

But that’s only one slider and not six speeds.

Manuals in traffic suck. If I want to shift my own I'll do it with my left foot, not in a cage.

And all of 98hp on a good day, (assuming it will start because the early fuel injection was a POS.) I really like the Mazda5, and most of those “tall” wagon vehicles. I’d take this one - https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a15391593/return-of-the-boss-wagon-mazdaspeed-5/

I owned one of those for a couple years, it was pretty great. Wheels spun to easy in the rain, but otherwise sweet.

I swapped the seats that’s about all that makes practical sense. If I were to ever do a motor swap it’d be the Volvo I5.

98 hp? That would be a pretty hot motor in a VW bus. My mom had an ‘80 Vanagon which had essentially the same motor as a late ‘70s Kombi, and it had a whopping 67 hp. My 83.5 had the new wasserboxer with 82 hp, and mom’s ‘90 had the massive 2.1l with 90 hp. Rocket ships they were not. When I worked at a dealer I did get a chance to drive an early Vanagon with a 3.0 out of a 911 and it was a trip - I don’t think I ever laughed so much behind the wheel of a vehicle in my life. Vanagons weren’t supposed to behave like that, and I made me imagine what it must be like to drive a Porsche B32.

If it doesn’t have a turbo, woodgrain, and a 5-speed manual it can’t possibly be the best minivan!
